We have worked with ISO standards for a long time when producing printed materials. We are certified according to CGP – Certified Graphics Production by SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden and we follow the international standard 12647-2 and associated ISO standards for CGP. This means that we as well as the customer have full control of the entire process from workflow, colour proof to complete product, with a predictable result.
You should always know which paper and printing method are going to be used for your job. This enables optimal colour management with when using ICC profiles. The Different types of paper are divided into different distinct categories and each category has an applicable ICC profile. Don’t forget to change the settings for colour management in your layout software when you know which ICC profile that willis going to be used. The artwork can be delivered in a variety of ways. One secure way is the file format PDF/X-1a. This file format only uses the CMYK colour model, embedding the information relating to the intended print method. Most software packages now have the facility to export files to the PDF/X-1a format. You can of course also send us the open document with its images and let us take care of the rest. If you want to have the images separated to CMYK you can use the PDF/X3 file format, which accepts the RGB colour model. If you are unsure about how to optimize the colour mapping from RGB to CMYK or from one CMYK combination to another, we can help you get the best quality from your artwork. We can also act as your advisor, helping you and your company create high quality artwork.
The paper-based colour proofs we send you are always checked and calibrated to ensure they are within the tolerances for the print method chosen. It is important that they are viewed under the correct lighting conditions, for instance using a proofing console. We provide self-adhesive labels that can help you determine whether the light is correct for viewing, please let us know if you want us to deliver these along with your proofs.
For digital printing, we normally produce machine colour proofs from the press, instead of using prepress proofing. Proofs are not normally included in our quotes; so please be sure to please let us know if you require colour proofs. In most cases, we use soft proofing. To view the soft proof correctly, your screen needs to be calibrated. We can calibrate your screen and check whether it is adequate for soft proofing. Also, don’t forget to check your colour settings in Adobe Acrobat, these are used when soft proofing.
12647-2 is the international standard for printing. The print run is checked at regular intervals to ensure the result is within acceptable tolerances.
